SMOKING
Today, Smoking is extremely common in women as in men. But women don't realize the risks associated with smoking. Women smoke for different reasons. Some women smoke to deal with stress. Teenage girls start smoking to show off attitude, or to be accepted by their peers. But there is never a good reason to smoke.
Smoking causes serious health problems such as:
- A woman's risk for death is almost double among smoking women compared to women who have never smoked in their lives
- Smoking causes lung cancer and other lung diseases, such as emphysema and chronic bronchitis
- Smokers may face cancer of the throat, mouth, larynx, lungs, esophagus, pancreas, kidneys, bladder, cervix, and stomach
- It causes Leukemia, or cancer of the blood
- Smoking may lead to Aortic aneurysms, which happens when an artery near your stomach weakens and swells
- Smokers suffer from bronchitis and pneumonia more often than nonsmokers
- Smokers are more likely to get Gum diseases
- Smoking women have an increased risk for stroke and subarachnoid hemorrhage.
- Women who smoke have an increased risk of death from ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm.
- Smoking increases the risk for cataracts, which can cause blindness
- Ulcers are also more common in smokers
- Teenage girls who smoke have reduced rates of lung growth, and adult women who smoke may experience a premature decline of lung function.
- Women who smoke have increased risk of conception delay and for both primary and secondary infertility and may have an increase in risks of ectopic pregnancy and spontaneous abortion.
- Smoking women may suffer from Atherosclerosis or hardening and narrowing of the arteries
- Smoking greatly raises a woman's risk for heart disease and stroke
- It also increases a woman's risk of dying from chronic obstructive lung disease
- Smoking women may have an early menopause
- Smoking increases the risk of getting a hip fracture
- Smoking increases the body's tendency to form blood clots
- Diabetic women are also at more risk if they smoke
- Smoking often increases wound infections after surgery
- Smoking women may find it difficult to get pregnant
- Smoking stains your teeth, fingers, and fingernails
- It causes Bad breath
- Smoking women may have a Wrinkled skin. Smoking affects how you look and feel. Smoking can harm a woman's appearance and mental health. Smokers may have more facial wrinkles, gum disease, dental decay, and halitosis (bad breath).
- Smoking women's illnesses last longer
Pregnant women who smoke have these problems:
- The placenta previa-placenta grows too close to the opening of the uterus or womb. This may lead to delivery by C-section.
- Smoking often leads to pre-term delivery, stillbirth, and early infant death.
- The baby might have a low birth-weight.
- Smoking may damage an infant's developing lungs.
- Smoking increases the risk of sudden infant death syndrome(SIDS)
- Smoking women may often pass the harmful chemicals from tobacco to their babies through breast milk.
- Smoking may lead to asthma, pneumonia, bronchitis, and fluid in the middle ear, or ear infections in the baby.
So dear ladies, we hope you will quit smoking after reading all this. You can always quit smoking, no matter how old you are or how long you have smoked. Quitting smoking will have immediate as well as long-term benefits. You will live longer and there will be many health improvements, such as a drop in heart rate, improved circulation, and reduced risk of heart attack, lung cancer, and stroke. Women who stop smoking reduce their risk of dying prematurely, and quitting smoking is beneficial to all. Live a smoke free life !
