Secrets To Long and Healthy Hair
- Take proper diet and nutrition.
- Drink enough daily fluids. Drink as much water as you can.
- Minimize unhealthy hair care habits , like the use of chemicals, hot tool use, hair colorants etc.
- Eliminate bad food from your diet that affects hair growth like excessive caffeine, excessive sugar, alcohol, wine, soft drinks, nicotine and junk food.
- Get enough sleep. Also take proper rest and relaxation.
- Take vitamins, minerals & herbs. You can either take a good multi-vitamin or a product designed to grow hair, this is an essential component for growing hair at the maximum rate.
- Don't believe the salon people when they promise you beautiful styles and colors. Remember, it's your hair. Consider any promises carefully and ask questions.
- Take food products rich in vitamin A and E .
- Take food rich in calcium like milk and curds.
- Take care and check whether you are suffering from hair loss, extreme dryness or any sudden change in your hair's condition. If you are experiencing any of these, take advice from a qualified medical practitioner.
- In order to have long healthy hair you need to first start with healthy hair. You must cut off every inch that is damaged. Cut off delicate hair, or hair with split ends.
- Trim your hair often. Trim half inch of hair every month or once in two months. Damaged hair doesn't grow, it usually breaks, and damage will only increase with time.
- Deep condition your hair at least once in a month, even if it is in good shape and condition. If your hair is dry or damaged, deep condition once in a week or in 2 weeks. Hot oil treatments are a good alternative for very dry hair or for extra conditioning, but this tends to lift off any non-permanent hair color.
- Apply oil to your hair regularly. Olive oil is very good for hair. And don't use too much of shampoo. Shampoo your hair once in 3-4 days. Don't shampoo everyday. Massage the scalp gently with your fingers after applying oil.
- Avoid using hot and heated appliances whenever possible. Never blow dry, or use hot curling irons, or hot rollers, and no flat irons or crimpers. If you really need to blow dry, do it minimally and sparingly, once in a few months.
- Don't use any harsh chemicals, or perms and peroxide on your hair. Hair colors are also bad. Use them sparingly, and use colors that are non-peroxide colors. If you must color, you can use henna (but it tends to dry hair). Hair color with low peroxide is more tolerable, but using these products over and again will eventually affect your hair in the long run. Never perm or straighten your hair, it is harmful.
- Avoid chlorine and saltwater. If you go for a swim, shampoo your hair as soon as possible after exposure. If you swim very often, use a good bathing cap. If you spend a lot of time in the sun, cover your hair with a hat or scarf.
- Be careful with the kind of hair jewelry you use. Never use metal barrettes (the "French" style). Don't use rubber-bands or anything with springs that may break your hair.
- Don't put your hair in any kind of style that will put undue stress on the individual hair - no tiny braids, no extremely tight coils and no tight pulling into a ponytail. If you pull your hair into a braid or a ponytail, make sure it isn't pulled tight enough to put stress on the roots of your hair. Pulling hair tight repeatedly results in bald patches!
- Avoid extreme diets. Never go on crash diets. If your body isn't getting enough nutrition, neither is your hair. Even if you avoid fats, it is essential that you don't completely eliminate all fat from your diet. Your hair needs some fat to remain healthy.
- Be extremely gentle and caring with your hair when it is wet. Don't rub your hair vigorously with a towel, gently squeeze the water with the towel down the length of your hair. Never brush your hair rigorously when it is wet, this is when your hair is the most delicate. Use a very wide-tooth comb to smooth wet hair. In fact, it is best to avoid brushing at all when your hair is wet.
- Use good shampoos and conditioners that suit your kind of hair.
