Raising Girls
Girls are always special. They are more sensitive, tender, loving , caring and understanding than boys. And hence they require special attention from us.
Here are some tips to follow to make your girls more confident :
- Most of us who are raising girls want them to become strong, capable individuals who can stand up for themselves . So, educate yourself on how to raise well rounded and well mannered girls.

Girls tend to be more emotional and sensitive than boys and therefore need more support from us. Preparing your daughter to become a strong, capable girl begins in the toddler years.
- As parents, be coaches, not judges. Encourage your girls, have high expectations, praise, criticize, and set limits, but don't be judgemental about them.
- De-emphasize the importance of appearance.
- Teach healthy competition. Encourage them to win ,but let them lose sometimes. Allow them to fail.
- Don't pressure your daughters to fit in socially. Many girls feel different during adolescence. Help them to redirect their energies toward positive activities like music, drama, sports etc.
- Encourage your daughters to be involved in all-girl activities .
- Let them read stories about successful women. It will inspire them.
- Help girls to be comfortable with math. Teach spatial skills through puzzles, games, and building activities.
- Consider traveling with your daughters. Also encourage independent trips with school groups. Travel provides a spirit of adventure, enrichment, family bonding, and self-confidence.
- Be an active role model for your girl , regardless of how busy you are, preserve time to talk with and listen to your daughters daily.
- Don't think that women are weaker and need protection, otherwise you will tend to raise daughters who are weak and dependent.
- Don't be too controlling in her life or overly protecting of her. Allow her to be independent and self reliant.
- Expect your daughter to be strong and competent; she'll know that you think like that and will respond accordingly.
- Talk to other parents who have had daughters and find out how they have dealt with the challenges of raising a daughter.
- Don't panic if your girl starts playing and jumping like boys.The truth is girls, like boys, do need to run and play and wrestle around.
- Train your child how to behave in various situations.
- Give them unconditional love via eye contact, physical contact, focused attention, and active listening, disciplining children is so much easier and effective.
- Don't worry if your daughter cannot get enough of Barbie! She will enjoy playing with Barbie for a while and eventually move on to other things.
- If she's fallen out with her best friend again don't worry.This is a very common occurrence with girls .
- One important skill that you should help your daughter to develop is that of problem solving.
- If your teenage daughter is a little obsessed with her weight ,Tell her the importance of being healthy and not to be obsessive about being thin.
- Avoid rescuing. Allow girls to face problems and arrive at their own solutions
- Boost technological mastery: Provide access to tools, machinery or computers .
- Stress the importance of math, science and technical classes
- Try not to be overprotective with your toddler or preschool daughter. For example, on the playground, encourage her to climb that big ladder, to swing higher, etc.
- Teach her to be assertive and say no when the situation demands it.
- Help your daughter to identify and prevent anxiety,depression and stress.
- Praise girls for what they do, not how they look.
- Stay involved in their education.
- Alternatively parents might consider martial arts or self-defense training for girls. We tell girls that the world is dangerous for them, yet give them no tools to fight back.
- Raising a daughter involves being her mentor, too.
As she grows up, let her take care of her own emotional, physical and spiritual needs.
- The mother-daughter relationship is vital for a daughter's emotional development. It is important that mothers keep open the communication lines with their daughters.
- Similarly, Dads are very important for girls.
